Hope and pray: A one-term President?

The Washington Times reports that Barack Obama has the worst approval rating of any American President in 40 years other than Bill Clinton at this point in his Presidency. Worse than Nixon. Worse than his mentor, Jimmy Carter.
At the 100-day mark of his presidency, Mr. Obama is the second-least-popular president in 40 years.

According to Gallup's April survey, Americans have a lower approval of Mr. Obama at this point than all but one president since Gallup began tracking this in 1969. The only new president less popular was Bill Clinton, who got off to a notoriously bad start after trying to force homosexuals on the military and a federal raid in Waco, Texas, that killed 86. Mr. Obama's current approval rating of 56 percent is only one tick higher than the 55-percent approval Mr. Clinton had during those crises.

As the attached chart shows, five presidents rated higher than Mr. Obama after 100 days in office. Ronald Reagan topped the charts in April 1981 with 67 percent approval. Following the Gipper, in order of popularity, were: Jimmy Carter with 63 percent in 1977; George W. Bush with 62 percent in 2001; Richard Nixon with 61 percent in 1969; and George H.W. Bush with 58 percent in 1989.

the times has a really weird way of reading poll numbers

and care to explain why you added the line about his "mentor" being carter?

far as i know, they have had very little to do with each other

Yeah, RINO Specter merely made it official. Given that he's 79, that he's facing a tough, divisive Republican primary, then WOULD HAVE HAD to face a tough Democrat challenger, Arlen Specter is merely doing what he has to do to hold onto "his" Senate seat, that he's warmed for almost 30 years. The inventor of the "Magic Bullet Theory" on the Warren Commission has now invented a magic bullet to save his own political butt.

Specter is another excellent example for the argument for a Terms Limitation Constitutional Amendment. What's a good idea for the Presidency is an even better idea for the professional prostitutes in the Congress. Two six year terms in the Senate and six two year terms in the House. The Founding Fathers did not envision a majority coterie of lifetime hacks controlling the Congress.

I'm hoping for a one-year president.

No. Not what you're thinking.

Here's hope he winds up getting himself impeached.

that's funny. Most polls show Obama as having very high approval ratings. Even fox, that would throw a party if Obama was losing support is showing good approval ratings:(http://www.foxnews.com/polls/index.html) hmmmm. Maybe they hope that making Obama look less popular will actually make him less popular? Whether this is good or not, i think it is quite amazing that a new president, that has taken so many enormous risks, is so trusted by the population. Washington times seems totally out of touch with reality, if you ask me.

Captain.H,

Specter is returning to his roots. He was originally a Democrat and switched to Republican to win an election.

The guy apparently has more lives than Shimon Peres.

The founding fathers did not put term limits in the Constitution. >>> The United States Congress passed the amendment on March 21, 1947. It was ratified by the requisite number of states on February 27, 1951.
